Let us not become….
Weary in doing good?
Have you ever noticed, as a Christian who seeks to serve Jesus, glorify His name and love those around you by spreading His goodness and grace to them, that it is often directly after such moments of ministry that some of the biggest “push-backs” happen in your life?
Whether it be in the form of literal people who hate Jesus pushing back with ridicule, persecution and confrontations, or in what seem like little “coincidental” life happenings that cause grief, sorrow, difficulty or despair, it sometimes causes believers to wonder about God’s ways.
It’s SO vital to stand firm, stay close to Jesus at all times, know His word and trust Him fully regardless of what we go through, so that these life events don’t hit us out of left field and throw us off course.
Have you ever had an experience like that? Are you going through one right now? I want to encourage you not to grow weary in doing good, my friend….
Catching Up
The past couple of months in my personal life have been filled with such refreshing ministry moments as well as times when the need to stay right by Jesus’s side presented themselves repeatedly, as His holy presence brought sustenance and strength in the midst of challenge.
In fact, last month’s blog and podcast never even made it to being published at all because of all those happenings!
Thanks to those who have prayed for me and our family. Today, I’m basically going to fill you in on what’s been going on personally, and also share from a video that I put together in late July, rejoicing in the healing from over the past year after having wrist surgery, showing how far the Lord has brought me in restoring my abilities to play guitar again.
Sweet Moments of Ministry
So, this all started a couple of months back in late July THIS year, in looking back on the past twelve months in that video (linked above), after having tripped and fallen LAST July, directly after a beautiful little concert in which I sang and played guitar in Ocean Grove, breaking my wrist and then spending all the past year recovering.
Over those months, the Lord also graciously allowed me to share about lessons that were taught to my heart throughout that healing process (in prior articles, podcasts and videos).
During late July THIS year, it was also SUCH a blessing to be involved with our church’s VBS program, not only helping teach the children, but also being able to play guitar and sing each evening.
That same week, my regular solo Ocean Grove concert was planned again (revisiting that same event from last year), and it was WONDERFUL to be able to go and play the guitar again throughout. And this time, we were so mindful of stepping CAREFULLY over any sidewalks, LOL!
My Plans vs. His Plans 😉
The intention at the time was to post that final wrist recovery video that was recorded on the actual one year anniversary of my surgery a couple of days later, and then to put out some single song videos from this year’s concert (which are mostly hymns).
Well, remember what was said earlier about being involved in ministry and then having suspiciously “coincidental” challenges directly thereafter?
During the week after all that ministry, I learned that our mother was not doing well in Florida, and she wasn’t sure how long she’d be with us this side of Glory.
Her birthday was coming up in a couple of weeks, and she didn’t know if she’d make it that long.
Long story short, the Lord sustained me every step of the way during that last minute trip to Florida, and not knowing what to expect, the return flight was scheduled for two weeks later, figuring that would be about the right amount of time.
Not only did she survive until her birthday, but as I write this, she is STILL with us, and thankfully we have been able to have periodic computer video calls with her since my ultimate return up north.
Those were such difficult days, but also, days that I will FOREVER cherish in gratitude to our Lord Jesus for His hand orchestrating them. I spent time by her side 24/7, and we had some of the most precious times together, reviewing the Lord’s amazing work in her heart over the years, sharing our love, scriptures, prayers and singing hymns together. How I wish she and I lived nearer to each other so those moments could continue in person….
Also, during that visit, we thankfully had the time to make more arrangements for her so she can have the care she needs during these days.
I’ve never met such a sweet saint who is so eager and ready to meet Jesus!
Of course, only He knows when the time will be appointed for her to go meet Him face to face….
For now, He has more for her on “this side of the veil”….
Hospital Chairs
Profoundly, upon my pre-arranged return home from Florida, my hubby said that he had been doing really well all the time that I was away, and that he had suddenly started feeling ill that very day, and over the next few days we ended up going to the ER and spending a couple of days in the hospital for him (where I stayed with him throughout).
The visitors’ chairs in the regular rooms in the hospital are more comfortable for make-shift sleeping than the ER chairs, LOL.
The Lord’s timing on that return home was impeccable.
Thankfully he is fine now–recovering well, and of course, your prayers are always appreciated!
More Ministry
About a week after we returned home from the hospital, the Oracle Band was scheduled for our yearly concert at Ocean Grove, and praise the Lord my hubby was able to accompany me to the shore and get some beautiful sunshine in the process!
BTW, if you see/hear this in time, Oracle will be playing again THIS FRIDAY evening (September 18, 2026) in Middletown, NJ, and I’ll drop more information in the footer section if you’re in that area.
Endurance
So, to sum up, here are some related scripture verses that will hopefully encourage you if you or a loved one are going through similar seasons in your life.
The Lord NEVER promised us that when we know Him we will have an EASY life…. He DOES promise He will be WITH us in and through it all, praise His name….
From my viewpoint (for what it’s worth) it seems that the longer we walk with Jesus, the closer we get to Him and the more we allow Him to minister to and through us, there are moments of testing and trials along the way.
Almost like the “tests” we had when we were in school, that would show us if we were “getting” the material, and point out areas where we needed to focus our attention and learn more.
Also, it seems similar to how exercising feels bad when we’re in the middle of it (at least from my perspective), but makes us STRONGER, so we can do and handle more….
These difficult moments in our life are the ones that many of us would rather NOT be required to endure. Yet, it is these very experiences that give us the “heart of Christ” toward others and make us more like Him.
In fact, there is virtually NOTHING a Christian can go through that does not have His grace covering over it, even when WE don’t understand the “why’s” of it all. As it says in Romans 8:28—
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Think of all HE endured, and He deserved NONE of it…. Yet He willingly went through it for you and me.
Because of our sin, we deserved to die in the way that He did…. Yet, being perfect and without sin, He was able to be the “willing sacrifice” to pay our debt for us.
He asks for us to repent of (turn from) that sin, come to Him and seek His forgiveness as we put our trust in Him and believe that He has saved us, and in the end WILL save us from the fate that had awaited us had He not come in to save us from it.
Now, those who have placed their faith in Him can face death with full assurance that when we shut our eyes here, we will open them on the “other side” with His face before us, welcoming us home. That is why my mother has been able to face what is likely the most difficult challenge of her life with trust and faith in her Savior Jesus.
Discipline
Oh, that life were “easy” without the difficulties we all face. But think of what that would mean. We would all be weak and soft—certainly not the holy saints that He desires us to be.
Here are some hard, but oh-so-good-and-true scriptures that help communicate that:
“Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father?”
(Hebrews 12:7)
“…God disciplines us for our good that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”
(Hebrews 12:10b-11)
The apostles went through unspeakable trials for the sake of Christ. Think of how profound these words are as you consider what they went through.
Paul and Barnabas (in Acts 14:22) encouraged the brethren with these words:
“We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.”
Peter said this:
“Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.”
(1 Peter 4:12-13)
Reaping that Harvest
If you have been able to relate to these words, and perhaps have been a bit worn down by the various struggles in life, may these words ring true in your heart of hearts, bringing you encouragement, hope and peace….
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”
(Galatians 6:9-10)
Let us carry on, following the One who goes before us, trusting that He knows the “Way” to get to the end of our journey, because He IS the Way.
God bless you, my friend.
