Need Some (Spiritual) Declogging?

In this new year, are there areas in your life that could use some “declogging”? Emotionally or spiritually, are there blockages lying beneath the surface that are preventing the Holy Spirit’s good work from flowing through you or through someone you know?

Happy New Year!

This episode is going to be a simple short good word, using some word pictures from recent life events, most notably from the past week, during recovery from the Flu, as well as the clearing out of a blocked drain and similar word-picture memories.

Hopefully these examples will easily remind us to seek the Lord, the “Expert” for His assistance in keeping our spiritual waterways cleared out and flowing freely.

Last week, I was focused primarily on recovering from the Flu (along with MANY others, to be sure). Thankfully, the Lord graciously provided rapid healing. Along the way, someone had mentioned that this year many people were also dealing with subsequent Pneumonia, so extra attention was given as well, to be sure nothing slipped by unnoticed.

Several times, the nasty bug seemed to be trying to take up residence in my lungs, but praise God, that also now seems to be cleared away.

I’m praying for others who may still be dealing with either the Flu or other respiratory infections.

Blockages

During that same time-period, we had also been dealing with a clogged drain in one of our sinks.

That drain had been slow for a while, and my hubby had been trying to open it up recently. Unfortunately, his valiant efforts actually resulted in it becoming MORE blocked.

Has that ever happened to you? You try all that you know how to do to fix something like that, and end up making a slow drain actually TOTALLY blocked?

So, for several days, that sink was out of commission.

Experts

After the Flu bug was behind us, my hubby decided that the only option left was to go ahead and call an expert.

So he called a company that specializes in such things. They did an EXCELLENT job, quick, efficient and effective. Within an hour or two, we had a functioning sink again, PTL!

It seems to be a really good idea, in the spiritual realm, to be aware, to keep things clear, and to do what WE can to allow things to flow in our lives … and when it’s necessary, to CALL AN EXPERT to help!

Whether we’re keeping our lungs clear, or our pipes, it’s always good to keep things unhindered. If we’re spiritually all clogged up, we won’t be able to do the things to which God is calling us.

Flowing Waters

That sink story reminded me of another word picture from several years ago.

This year, we have had some snow, but so far it has been thankfully quite manageable.

That particular year, however, had been filled with a LOT of snow, ice and refreezing. As the winter began to finally fade into spring, I remember looking at the ice blocking up the works at the base of our driveway, and hoping that the warm springtime air could begin to melt the ice, so that the water would begin to flow more freely. As it did so, that water would melt more and more ice, and eventually cause the blockage to dissolve, allowing the water to wash away all that mess.

That image brought to mind our spiritual lives, and how the coldness in our hearts can block the good things that the Lord would cause to flow in and through our hearts, and that we needed His Holy Spirit’s warmth to melt the icy areas in our lives.

Forgiveness

It’s so vital to let the Lord clear away those things that hinder His work within us.

These word pictures can help us remember the importance of calling Him for His assistance.

Here are a couple of specific scriptures that these ponderings brought to mind (both are from the NIV translation).

The first is from Hebrews 12:15

“See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.”

Whether or not you’ve ever seen that in your life, you probably can look around at our society at large and see a LOT of bitter roots that have sprung up and defiled a lot of hearts.

As Christians, it’s important for us to allow the Lord to unclog areas in our hearts and minds that are STUCK, because of sin, unforgiveness, bad habits or bitterness and that have resulted in us being IMMOVABLE.

May the Lord use these thoughts to open up areas in our lives that feel tough, tight, frigid and not able to let His Holy Spirit flow freely.

Another helpful scripture is from Acts 3:19, when Peter was talking to the Israelites after Christ had been crucified, and he was witnessing to them and encouraging them to come to Jesus. He said this during part of that…

“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, and that He may send the Christ, who has been appointed for you–even Jesus.”

How we need those times of refreshing!

I pray that the Lord will refresh you in this new year, as He clears away the things in your life that are blocking the way and hindering His progress within you.

Let us do all that we can to clear away those clogs in our lives, and MOST importantly, may the FIRST thing we do is go right to the Expert so He can swiftly and efficiently keep things moving along in the waterways of our lives.

I pray that He will heal any physical trials of yours, and that He will use these words to prompt you to keep your spiritual life clear of obstacles, clearing away unforgiveness, bitterness, sin, discord or any other thing that would keep you from freely walking “in Him”.

I am sharing a video of one of my songs to accompany this episode. It will be going live for public viewing at 3 PM on 1/15/2026. It’s called “Soften Our Hearts”, and was recorded during a live online in-home concert from a couple of years ago. I pray that as you listen, the Lord will use the words to minister the warmth of His Holy Spirit to your heart, melting away any iciness or hardness by His grace and kindness.
